Organizing magazine patterns

I had piles and piles of crochet magazines and had to sift through the every time I needed to find a specific pattern. So, I purchased a paper knife/islice/quick cutter to safely and soothly put my magazines apart. I took the information and patterns that I wanted and put them in clear sleeves three whole punched. I then categorized and sub-categorized the patterns into about 5 different categories and about 5 subcategories for each category. They are now all in binders on a shelf. Whenever I get a new magazine I put out the information or pattern that I want and put it in a sleeve and in the appropriate binder. Takes about 30 minutes to get the job done now, and I can find the exact pillow or scarf pattern when I need it.

Great tip. I used to file my patterns/recipes etc in binders too but found that they take up too much space on my over crowded bookshelf. So now I just scan the patterns/pages/recipes I want and have them sorted in categories on a rewritable CD/DVD. Only problem is needing to print the pattern/recipe when I want to use it :P.

One can always purchase more bookshelves.
When it comes to crochet, I like to stay as far away from technology as possible. That's partly why I picked it up. I work with computers all day, I like to come home to something that doesn't required electricity.

What do you do when two patterns share a page (part of one on back side of another)?

Double them up, putting pics on the outside if possible and all the instructions in the middle.
