keeping projects cat hair free
This is no novel tip I'm sure, but I rely on all those clear plastic zippered bags that sheets, curtains, and the like come in to keep my works in progress cat hair free. We've got 4 cats and they love the yarn. The toddlers like to help the cats love the yarn...
I forgot to mention that I crochet right out of those bags of course - stationary, nonrolling, fur free yarn :D

I learned crochet from my mom around age 12, dropped it in college and grad school, and picked it up again when my middle school students started to bring in their crochet during free time in school. I'm a mom to 2 toddler boys, so crochet has been scant this past year. I need to find time to pick it back up and finish the half dozen projects in the works.
