If you, like me, have ever run out of yarn with your scarf or afghan half-fringed, this trick might help. After I get my project started far enough so that I know how wide it's going to be, and therefore how much fringe I'll need, I take a CD or DVD case (depending on how long I want my fringe to be), and wrap the yarn around it enough times to equal the amount of fringe I'll need. For a scarf, I usually only need one case, more for an afghan. Once I have it wrapped, I tape the ends, without cutting them, and then tuck the case/s back onto a shelf. That way, the yarn is already allotted for the fringe, and I know the the rest of the skein is available for the main project. The yarn around the case stays in good condition until I'm ready to use it, too.
