Amigurumis and Crochet Hooks
When working with crocheted dolls, it's best to use aluminum hooks. I find that the tight stitches tend to snap the plastic ones. I've broken several plastic hooks (the really pretty colourful ones too) working on an amigurumi ear or thumb or other small part.

Hi. I go by Penguin or Pengy. I'm 15 years old. I've been crocheting ever since I was 8. I have a slight tendency to not finish things that I make for myself. I'm always making a gift for a friend or family member. I also have a small (ok big) yarn addiction. I can't help it. I like soft fuzzy things and sparkly things. Lately I've begun writing my own patterns. So far I haven't written anything super difficult. Mostly things like gloves and scarves. I do make clothes for my sisters' Webkinz though. I need to start writing the patterns down. I've made a ton of things for them and haven't written one thing down yet. In my opinion, the best thing I've made is a pencil case. All my friends loved it. I'm going to need to make another soon.

I also would recommend to have a smaller hook on hand.
I often use one or even two sizes smaller when the stitches are really tight to help me grab the yarn. The stitch itself (ofcourse) is made with the normal sized working hook.
