Travel Mosaic
It's presstime in Loveland, which means this editor hit the road today.
Sock-it-to-me fog in Raleigh, NC, and snow in Denver conspired to make this a challenging travel day. Lots of delays and cranky co-passengers.
The delays were unpredictable and mostly secret—we found out about further delays in 10- to 20-minute increments. (If you travel often enough, you know what I'm talking about.)
But we crocheters have secrets weapon against travel angst: yarn and a hook. (I also espied a knitter knitting away, an oasis of calm amongst the delayed passengers.)

Scarf Up Warmth
In today's CrochetMe More enewsletter, I allow as how I don't have a crocheted scarf to call my own. I'm working on fixing that.
Look:

This scarf began life as a swatch for a project in Interweave Crochet's forthcoming winter issue (Wait 'til you see the whole project!). It's worked in superlight but warm Tahki Dove.
Moorish Mania
I am a crocheter obsessed.
When it comes to crochet projects, I often eagerly take on a project. Then it falls by the wayside in favor of another new project. It's a hazard of the job.
There was every chance that the Moorish Mosaic Afghan by Lisa Naskrent from the fall issue of Interweave Crochet would meet the same fate. But not so.
I have been working feverishly on this. Look:
Making the Moorish Mosaic Afghan
In this week's enewsletter, we talk with Lisa Naskrent about her design inspiration for the Moorish Mosaic Afghan, featured in the fall issue of Interweave Crochet.

Big bag, little bag
Have you seen the Fortune Cookie Bag in the Fall issue of Interweave Crochet? Very clever, I think. And the size is just right for a wallet, phone, keys.
But maybe you want to carry a little more—or less. Here are some options.
Bigger and smaller.
When I was testing the pattern, I used sock yarn to make this:
Cate Blanket
Just because you have a blanket doesn't mean you have to use it.
Apparently, it was cold in Melbourne, where Cate appeared at the opening of Screen Worlds at ACMI
Here's the story.
Two hooks: Same size, different gauge
So here's a curious thing about that purple crochet hook.
The pattern for the project I'm working on recommends an H / 5 mm hook. The yarn I used recommends a knitting needle size of 5-6 or 3.75-4 mm. Frequently yarn balls give only knitting needle sizes (though this is changing among more enlightened yarn producers). To figure crochet hook size from a recommended knitting needle size, bump up the mm by at least 1.
Weekend crochet
Time Flies
OK, I've been back in North Carolina for a week now, and I really didn't mean to leave you hanging about the whole hook thing. But I came right back to bonding with my computer and working on three more issues of Interweave Crochet.
So, here's the deal. I went to extreme measures to avoid losing my hook on the return trip.
