Ivy Leaves
Author
Introduction
After failing to find a nice pattern for crochet ivy leaves (or a pattern at all) I decided to make my own. And since I woke up with ivy in my hair this morning (don't ask) I thought today would be as good a day as any to start.
This is the first pattern of mine I've actually written out, if anyone gives it a go let me know if you find any problems or have trouble interpreting it.
Enjoy.
Materials List
10 ply wool
5mm hook
Finished Size
approx 6cm X 6cm
Obviously smaller hook/wool smaller leaf, bigger hook/wool bigger leaf. Or adjust the pattern as you see fit.
I'll be making these in a range of sizes, and in 5 point varieties for a shawl I'm working on.
Gauge
Not all that important for this pattern
Notes
It was stitched with the venation with a 3 ply cotton thread. You obviously don't have to add this, but I love little bits of detail like that. A 2-4 ply wool would be much better then the cotton, but this was all I had. When I make the rest of the leaves I'll be buying some wool for the veins.
The Pattern
ch6
Round 1:
sc in 2nd ch from the hook, sc in next 3 ch, 3 sc in end ch, sc in next 3 ch (opposite side to previous stitches), 2 sc in last ch (where the first sc was made), sl in first sc.
You should now have a sort of elongated oval, you may want to mark the end stitches in each side.
Round 2:
ch1, sc in same st, sc in next 4 sc, 3 sc in end sc, sc in next 5 sc, 3 sc in end sc, sl in first sc of this round
Round 3:
ch1, sc in same st, sc in next 5 sc, 3 sc in end sc, sc in next 6 sc, 3 sc in end sc, sl in first sc of this round
Apex:
Turn without turning ch, sc in next sc, dc in next sc, sc in next sc, sl in next sc, fasten off and weave in end.
Side points:
Starting at the end stitch directly opposite the apex, join with a sl, ch 1, *sc in next 4 sc, ch1 to turn, sc in same st, repeat once from *
ch1 to turn, sc in same st, sc in next 2 st, sl in next st, ch1 to turn, sc in next 2 st, sl in last st, fasten off, weave in end.
Repeat in reverse for other side point.
