Astute reader Dori [1] smacked me into place with her comment to my last post [2]. She fairly accurately pointed out my insensitivity regarding the comment I made about a woman who should have thought about the welfare of her kids before she landed herself in prison. Obviously, I know nothing about that woman's situation, and I was snarky. For that I apologize.

Dori's comments also made me realise that although I've been linking to articles about prison programs, I haven't indicated how great I think they are. I'm a firm believer that prison is a place where inmates should be encouraged to reform their ways. That crochet seems to have found a place in helping people to gain self-respect and give them the energy to reform is a powerful thing, and I think such programs should be promoted as much as possible.
