Water Bottle Cover

Introduction

We have a joke here in Florida: don't even walk to your mailbox without a bottle of water. It is a great stash buster, using less than one ounce of worsted yarn. It is worked all in one piece, so there is no need for sewing. It has a slight texture to it, so it won't slip out of your hand. The strap can go around your wrist or be clipped onto your gym bag as well. It is thin enough so you can put it in the drink holders in your car, with no sweat! Using acrylic worsted makes it easy to wash and dry. It will keep your water cool, and always at your fingertips.

Materials List

One ounce of worsted weight yarn

Size G hook

Needle for finishing

Finished Size

Fits a 16.9 oz bottle, but can be modified to fit a larger bottle.

Gauge

4 sts and 4 rows = 1"

Notes

Gauge is not critical in this project.

The Pattern

The bottom is worked in rounds:
With G hook, Ch 3, sl st in first ch to form a loop.
Rd 1: Ch 1. In loop, 6 sc. Sl st in first sc to join. 6 sc
Rd 2: Ch 1. *2 sc in each sc*, repeat. Join. 12 sc
Rd 3: Ch 1. *1 sc, 2 sc in next sc*, repeat. Join. 18 sc
Rd 4: Ch 1. *2 sc, 2 sc in next sc*, repeat. Join. 24 sc
Rd 5: Ch 1. *3 sc, 2 sc in next sc*, repeat. Join. 30 sc
Optional row, for larger water bottles:
Rd 6: Ch 1. * 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc*, repeat. Join. 36 sc
Side: Now working ONLY IN THE BACK LOOP in continuous rounds:
Work 1 sc in back loop only of each sc. Continue working in back loop only until the side measures 6”, or desired length. End with sl st.
For loop handle: Ch 40, sl st in same sc as ending sl st.
Last row: working in BOTH LOOPS, sl st around top of holder and in each ch of loop handle. Fasten off. Weave ends in.

Recently, I decided that I wanted a place to stash the bottle cap, so I sewed on a kitty face, like a pocket.  Also, I worked a few more rows, and added a top row in double crochet, to weave a strap through, for added insulation.

Thank you for sharing this pattern. I really appreciate it. My daughter has requested a water bottle holder and this seems a very sturdy/practicle pattern. Hope to make this or a few of these soon!

Thank you again.
