Simple newborn hat with ear flaps

Introduction
I designed this little newborn hat in a few days as one of the hats I’ll be donating to the current Save the Children appeal. The pattern that was provided by Woman’s Weekly gave me real trouble so I thought it would be a nice idea if I tried my hand at designing a couple of easier hats for people to make.
Details about the Knit one Save on campaign can be found here: www.savethechildren.org.uk/en/5072.htm

Notes
All rounds are joined with a sl st to the last stitch/top of chain from the beginning of that round.
This pattern uses American crochet terms. The following abbreviations used are:
ch - chain
sc - single crochet
dc - double crochet
sl st - slip stitch
tog - together (decreasing)

This looks great and I would like to try it for an older baby. Does anyone have any hints on making it larger - perhaps going by head circumference.
Thanks, Lois
Maybe you could just start with 8 or 10 sc in the first loop instead of just 6?
This is adorable. It will go great with a sweater I'm making for my grand daughter. I'll let you know how it turns out!
I love love love this hat! I made it to compliment the little slippers I had already made, and the hat took only about two hours - the ultimate baby gift! I decided to add some "pigtails" and a pom pom to copy the ones that are in style right now...it really inspired me. Thanks for sharing. I'll use this one again and again!
(It only looks pointy because it's on a stick!)
There have been a number of questions about this pattern recently (so hopefully I'll see some more pictures of finished items soon - hooray!). Just to let you all know that I've corrected a typo in the pattern that has been pointed out to me as well as changing the pattern repeats in the pattern to be with in *asterisks* instead of (brackets) to help avoid any confusion.
Good luck all and if anyone has any questions then I am always happy to help :)
I like your pattern. I was trying to make.I donot understand the3rd line you said ch 2 2dc in the next sc. I made that .After that 1dc. times 5 I am not getting that part.can you explain in a easy way. Thank you
Thank You for the most wonderful pattern, I just finished my second hat. I am so grateful for the way you stuck with me thru this pattern. Thanks to you, many many babies in Chicago will go home from the hospital warm this year.
Keep Creating!!!
