Oversized Poof Cap

Introduction

This started as a mistake, but I ran with it, and now it's one of my favorite caps. It leaves room for people with curly or thick hair, if you just had a hairstyle done. It's also just plain fashionable! Takes no time at all (accomplished in about 45 minutes in between watching TV). No need for lots of attention to make this cap.

Materials List

Caron Perfect Match Black (don't need a whole skein)

Divine yarn for the rim (but you can use whatever you fancy)

Finished Size

Fits almost any size head. And as usual, you can decrease or increase accordingly.

Gauge

Totally depends on the yarn you use. This was mostly done visually, so take a guess and go with it!

Notes

The Pattern

Ch 5, slip stitch into a circle.

Rd 1: Ch 3 (counts as first DC) and then dc 9 more in circle. Slip stitch to 3rd ch in first ch3.

Rd. 2-3: 2 DC in EACH dc in the round.

Rd. 4: DC in next 3 dc, then 2 dc in 4th dc. repeat that pattern throughout round 4.

Rd. 5: DC in next 6 dc, then 2 dc in 7th dc. repeat that pattern throughout round 5.

Rd. 6: DC in next 10 dc, then 2 dc in 11th dc. repeat throughout the round.

**Continue until you want it as wide as you want.**

When you hit Rd. 8, just dc in each dc around, for two rounds.

To create the narrow band that fits around the forehead, immediately start a round by doing a double crochet in EVERY OTHER dc. Do this for two rounds.

In the final round, use a different yarn to create a fashionable rim. You can also use ribbon or make a flower to add to it to spice it up!

Good luck - and play with it a bit. Everyone will want more or less room in the cap.

This is sooo great. I have been looking for a hat that can accomodate my curly hair! The subject was even on a curly hair discussion board that I was reading. :)

I am planning to make this one soon. Thanks for posting!

I did one in Black with a Pink edging for my sister's 40th birthday. I can't wait to give it to her. This was way easy to follow and make. I even improvised a matching bracelet in the same type pattern with 2 rows of the black on the outside and pink in the center and it closes with a pearl pink button.
I hope she likes it. Thanks for this easy to follow pattern.
