I love this granny square. Thanks so much for sharing the pattern. Can't wait to try it!!!!

Live well, laugh often, love much
Thank you for the encouragement! Am looking forward to seeing how people use the pattern...
It's very pretty! I love how the colors almost swirl.
Awww, pshaw. Thank you for the appreciation - it is a fun square to do once you get the colors set up.
I like this. Is it hard to make?
Once you get the initial spiral going, it is really easy to see where the next color is supposed to begin. The only fiddly part is keeping the four yarns from tangling - which isn't "hard", just don't have any cats nearby when crocheting!

I wonder how this would look when using one of the yarns that change their own color?
If each swirl were started with a different color section, it could have a cool effect; though the swirls may be less distinct because the same color is likely to show up on each of the swirls. Maybe it would turn out like the old paint swirler toy, where you have a piece of paper spinning around (on a phono turntable-like machine) and you squirt different colors of paint on the moving paper....
I usually don't care for granny squares, but this pattern looks really interesting, I can't wait to try it. Thank you for the new pattern.
That is so awesome, I love it and am going to make one right now. Thanks so much for sharing the pattern.
Happy to be crocheting, tt
Would really like to see pics of any squares/projects made from this pattern. Let me know if any of the directions don't make sense/add-up...
That is so cool! I can't wait to try it!!!
wow this is great! this goes straight to my to-do list!
I LOVE your pattern!!!
mad for crochet!
hmm, I just tried to post a picture in here and I don't see it. Oh well, I will post one in the WIP forum.
I was wondering how you'd go about making the squares bigger (ie. adding another few rounds).
I will have to experiment.
Wonderful pattern. i tried it out with lion brand wool thick and quick and a size N hook, but I'm having issues making it square it looks a little funky at the corners... any help?
Sorry!
Round 5 (or on whichever round you end) should be...
Continuing with color A, * {ch1, in ch2 sp (3dc, ch1, 3dc), sk 2dc, ch1,
.....2dc in ch1 sp, sk 2dc, ch1, hdc & sc in ch1 sp, sk 2dc, ch1, sc & slst in ch1 sp. repeat from * with colors B, C, & D.
This reduces the height of the last stitches. Mine was colly-wampis also until I blocked it
Another thing you may try with the thicker yarn, is to ch3 at the corners to give the stitches enough room.
Thanks for asking - can't see how I got away with such instructions and thought it was right!
thats a really cool block.
Is the pattern re-workable to make the swirl go in the opposite direction? Or do you just turn it up-side down?
I see "Monkey Wrench" quilt squares put together
Heres a link to see how the blocks would intertwine:
http://www.quilterscache.com/M/MonkeyWrenchBlock_Page3.html
be sure to check out the other samples on this page too(just under the Page 1 and Page 2 links)
Found another mistake in the directions - on round 5 there should be a ch2 rather than ch1 between the 3dc at the corners...
so the instructions for round 5 should read (I hope)
Rnd 5: Continuing with color A, * {ch1, in ch2 sp (3dc, ch2, 3dc), sk 2dc, ch1, 2dc in
ch1 sp, sk 2dc, ch1, hdc & sc in ch1 sp, sk 2 dc, ch 1, sc & slst in ch1 sp} repeat from * with colors B, C, & D.
Such a simple pattern and so many errors - can't imagine how anyone gets a really complicated design written out correctly.
Thank you all for your interest and trying out the pattern; and for your patience!
As far as making the swirl go the other way...Makes my head spin; you would have to crochet in reverse - I would turn the block over. I also though of the Monkey Wrench quilt when I did the square...
Looking forward to making this pattern. Thank you for sharing. Katrina
Happy people are the fizz in the soda of life.
Oh, oh, oh! I have a new favourite square. I only found your pattern yesterday and I've already made one. I love it! Thank you so much.
I'm so glad you like it - especially after making it. Thank you for letting me know!
Hi there!
I had to try this pattern as soon as I saw it!! I have tried a few different versions of combining them. I even mirrored the block to get the spiral to go the other way.
I am super impressed with you for designing a square like this. I could manipulate it a bit but I could never have designed it in the first place. Good on You! Please have a look at my blog for photos: http://sonenskadu.blogspot.com/2009/05/spiral-granny-squares.html
Y'all must look at Ansie's crochet on her blog. Wonderful work!
I am impressed with the way you used the block. Very nicely done. If people want to have the block spiral in the opposite direction, perhaps we should all make friends with those who crochet with the opposite hand?
Hi Shortmom
The blanket is finally finished! Please have a look at the blog for photos. http://sonenskadu.blogspot.com/2009/08/spiral-granny-squares-finished-at...
Thanks again for the great design. I really enjoyed making this.
Ansie
Your blanket looks lovely! Such nice work and color combination. I am glad you enjoyed it as well. Thanks for sharing Ansie!
Great Square I would love to figure out how to make them bigger because I would love to make my oldest daughter a blanket that is just one big spiral granny square in bright colors sometimes teenagers are hard to please and she is constantly changing her mind about how she wants her room, we plan on moving after the new year lately there seem to be a few more places to buy on land contract down here. So we wouldn't have to throw our money down the black hole known as rent, we want to have something of our own. She wants her room done in this color, then its this color, maybe this color instead. So I figure if I do this in her four favorite colors at least it will go with whatever she ends up deciding on.
Finally I'm able to see the pattern, been haunting it down for some days, absolutely lovely!! I can't wait to try it out.
