DC Shoe co. Nock-off hat

Introduction

I saw a DC Shoe Co hat while visiting Ireland in 2006. I thought I could make one myself, so when I got home I made my version.

Materials List

3 ounces of any colour of Knitting worsted weight yarn
Size “G” hook
Yarn needle

Finished Size

One size fits all

Gauge

4sc = 1 “; 4 rows = 1”

Notes

Skill: beginner

Stitch guide:
ch: Chain
sl st: Slip stitch
sc: single chain

The Pattern

Crown of Hat
With “A” ch 4, join with a sl st to form a ring.
Rnd 1: Ch 1 (does not count as a st), work 6 sc into ring.
Do not join this or any other round. From this point on to end of rnd 11, work in back loops of sc only.
Rnd 2 and 3: 2 sc in each sc around. (24) Place marker to mark each round.
Rnd 4: *sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc, repeat from * to end. (30)
Rnd 5: *sc in next 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc, repeat from * to end. (36)
Rnd 6: *sc in next 5 sc, 2 sc in next sc, repeat from * to end. (42)
Rnds 7 – 11: Working 1 more sc between incs repeat rnd 6, 5 more times. End with a sl st.

Side band of hat:
This can be done two ways.
1: You can make this as a strip and sew on after.
2: You can attach as you make it.

Method 1:
Row 1: Chain 24. Sc in 2nd st of ch, 1 sc in each remaining st of ch, ch 1 and turn.
Row 2: Working in back loops from now on, 1 sc in each st to end, ch 1, turn. Repeat until piece is long enough to fit all round the crown. Either sew band onto crown or you can sc it on. Once the band is attached, sl st last row to first row and sc round.

Method 2:
Row 1: Chain 24. Sc in 2nd st of ch, 1 sc in each remaining st of ch. Sl st in in each on next 2 st. turn.
Row 2: Working in back loops from now on, 1 sc in each st to end, ch 1, turn.
Row 3: 1 sc in each st, sl st in next 2 sts, turn.
Repeat rows 2 & 3 until side band is worked round to beginning. Sl st last row to first row and sc round.
Beak:
This is worked like the beak of my Two Toned Beaked Hat as follows:
Rnds 1-4: Working on back side of rows, sc in ea sc in both loops of next 30 sc. Ch1 and turn.
Rnd 5: Dec 1 sc in each of the next 26 sc. Dec 1, ch 1, turn.
Rnd 6: Dec 1 sc in each of the next 24 sc. Dec 1, ch 1, turn.
Rnd 7: Dec 1 sc in each of the next 22 sc. Dec 1, ch 1, turn.
Rnd 8: Dec 1 sc in each of the next 20sc. Dec 1, ch 1, turn.
Rnd 9: Dec 1 sc in each of the next 18 sc. Dec 1.
Rnd 10: sc in ea sc all round hat. Fasten off. Weave in ends.

This really is a simple hat to make.

This hat is too cute! Thanks for the beak pattern! I've been looking for one to put on my boyfriend's hat!

how do you mean when you say 2 sc in each sc, like the first round you make 6 sc, then you do 2 in each for the second and third?and what does back loops of sc mean?
