Boho Belt

Introduction
Do you secretly love old doilies? Well, my secret’s out, I do; but what I am I going to do with a bunch of doilies? I’m not too into tablecloths or jar covers. Then that magic crochet bug hit me, dissect them! What I found is a deep love for the intricate edgings. Go on check them out. They are amazing. Immediately I thought, BELT! The stitch pattern below is an edging that has been around for over a hundred years, but in this setting you take all the fuddy-duddy out and are left with a great belt. Very Bohemian, very hip, very now. So next time grandma wants to give you another doily, say, thanks! And start imagining all that you can re-create with it.

I love this pattern. I'm definitely going to make a few of them.
what an excellent idea! i love looking at doilies and edgings and such but would never use them. this would make a great scarf too. thanks for the inspiration.
I love this pattern as well as doilies!! I crochet with thread a lot lately and I am loving it!!! I also have been thinking about what to make out of the beautiful doilie patterns as well as the Filet Crochet and Irish Lace Crochet. I can't wait to make this belt! It is super cool! Thanks for sharing it!

Does anyone have a recipe for home made starch to stiffen stuff like this? The spray starch from Joann's doesn't work for me? Has anyone used the starch used for ironing?
Some one told me to use corn startch but I don't have a recipe. I would love to stiffen my crochet baskets and have tried glue, and I thought wood glue would do well but it discolors the yarn. I have tried it with size 10 crochet thread and it works beautiful. does this help? I have also heard Arleen"s tacky glue is good but it's rather messy.
I not-so-secretly love doilies, and have been making and wearing more belts. Wonder if I can convert it to thread without much difficulty...
Rachel- you can definitely make this in thread. I would just suggest using liquid starch to stiffen the belt.
I have been looking for liquid starch and I do live out in the country where no one knows what I am talking about. Do you know a way that i can use something else? Maybe home made? Sugar and water just doesn't do it for me. And by the way I love you on TV with Brett Bara. You rock girl. You do beautiful work.
Friend you have beautifull projects, congratulations.
I too secretly love old crochet patterns, but hey, what do you do with doilies. Thanks for a wonderful idea! Your brilliant!
LOL; It's not a boho belt it's a cameltoe belt :-P
I love your patterns!!!! Especially this one. I have a certain secret love for doilies too. But I don't want my house looking like an only lady lives here, so I've decided to wear more belts! lol. This pattern has really gotten me thinking about some other patterns I've seen.
This is my favorite crochet belt pattern. What a great use for this stitch pattern!
