Is this a dagger I see before me?

Introduction

Be kind, I only started crocheting in November. This is my first truly original pattern, which was designed for my local youth theatre. The dagger on the left is not being used, for some unknown reason.

Materials List

double knit wool, 4mm hook, stuffing, needle cardboard and scissors.

Finished Size

up to you

Gauge

not important

Notes

The Pattern

work both loops in rounds continuously.
instructions are a bit woolly (forgive the pun) but this is to allow freedom of size, plus my inability to be accurate.
cut the shape of a dagger blade, out of two thin pieces of card or one piece if thicker. This "shaper" should be roughly 2" wide, length is up to you, but bare in mind it should extend into the handle. Remember to give this a point

starting at the point, DC 6 into a magic loop and tighten
2dc in each stitch in the round
SC in each stitch for 8 rounds
at this point insert the cardboard strengthener and continue to SC in each stitch until you're happy with the length, allowing for hilt and handle. You may find it easier to stitch in back loop only.

The Hilt.
Fsc 18, join as loop without twisting and SC in each stitch in the round until you have a tube long enough to wrap comfortably around the blade. Stuff and sew into a doughnut then attach to blade.

Handle
6sc in a magic loop, tighten
next 3 rounds 2sc in each stitch
stitching in front loop only sc in each stich of round
and from now on in both, continue to sc in each until you have a tube the depth of your fist.
Place over cardboard and stuff.
Finally stitch handle to hilt.

This latest has no hilt, like I say, it's a flexible pattern.

Simple Post Earings

Introduction

Some simple post earrings. And my very first pattern to boot! :o) so, if there are errors, or a simpler/wiser way to write it down/communicate it - feel more than free to let me know.

Materials List

Aunt Lydia's Classic Crochet Thread size 5 in Linen

1.0 Crochet hook

22 Light Gold Supra Metallic Czech 11/0 seed Beads

Bead needle - button bead thread

circle post earring backs

washable fabric glue.

Finished Size

1 inch

Gauge

There are only two rows to crochet, so as large as you want.

Notes

The Pattern

CH 5, Connect to first Ch with a slip stitch - (creating a circle)

Row 1: (going through the center of the circle) hdc 10 times: Connect to first hdc with a slip stitch

Row 2: *Ch 5, slip stitch in first hdc, Ch 3 Slip stitch in next hdc*. (repeat from * to * all the way around.) Tie off

°sew the gold beads around the center then glue to the post backs. Using a washable fabric glue to secure the crochet to the metal post earring back gives the earring longer staying power then other glues, because the washable fabric glue doesn't break down as you sweat.

Twice Crochet Beaded Bracelet

Introduction

This is a little wrist warmer I made although it looks great as a chunky cold weather bracelet. It's beginners although it can get fiddly. I work in Australian terminilogy which is largely like that of the U.K. so a double crochet is a single US and a treble crochet is a double US. I will try to put both in but if I miss one out I will be using the UK terminology and the US in curly {} brackets.

Materials List

Gold Embroidery Thread - about 8 meters
200 x 4mm (6 per inch) seed beads of various matching colours
Sewing and Knitting needles
Marino Supreme Checkheaton - light weight [3] about 20gms
Size 3.00mm crochet needle - Size 0 US - Europe C2 - 00 UK
Size 6.00mm crochet needle - Size J/10 US and Europe - 4 UK

Finished Size

25cm circumference for the bracelet
8cm diameter for the flower

Gauge

Bracelet - 3 treble crochet (double crochet) per inch
Bead string - 10 chains per inch including the chains containing beads

Notes

The beaded chain works best if the tension is varied so as to give a slight random sizing between beads. You will find it easier to string beads onto the length of the embroidery thread and bring a few up near your work at a time. You will need to gently stretch your yarn every so often to tighten the beads into place. That's what worked for me but I tend to crochet more European style so it's up to you.
Note you are in effect creating your own yarn which you will use in conjunction with the wool to crochet the flower.

Tip. Avoid having to unravel your flower at any point. The beaded yarn will tend to get caught up on itself. It will take some patience to get it untangled.

The Pattern

For the beaded yarn. Use size 3.00mm (0) hook
Ch 2, bring a bead close to the last chain and ch over the bead. Ch 3, ch 1 with bead. Cont ch 3, ch1 with bead until yarn measures 2.1 meters. See picture below.

For flower. Use size 6.00mm (J) hook. You must crochet using the wool and your bead yarn at the same time.

Ch 4, ch in the first ch to form a circle. * Ch 5, ch 1 in center of circle. * Rep from * 6 times. Fasten off. Leave some wool for sewing remaining beaded yarn onto the bracelet. Finish by sewing the remaining beaded yarn into the center of the flower by using the wool. Leave some wool underneath to attach the flower to the bracelet.

For the bracelet.

Ch 23, * ch2, tr 1 {dc 1} in second ch from the edge, tr 21 {dc 22}*. Repeat from * to * for 5 rows. Fasten off leaving enough wool to join the two shortest ends together.

Sew the ends together as described above. Attach the beaded flower over the sewn edge taking care to cover all of the seam. Stretch the flower if necessary. Ensure each petal of the flower is separately anchored or it will flap about.

Autumn Reminiscence, hairpinlace socks

Introduction

Autumn Reminiscence
I know, it could sounds weird, but I do like socks ( made by me, lol), and hairpin lace. So here I joined the two things together. Now is hot here (Chile), and I had the perfect fall colors yarn.
It is not my first pair, so I know it works, but as always, everybody loves my socks....
Enjoy!

Materials List

-2 ply yarn (mine is 100% wool) 3 oz,
-3mm (near #3 steel American) hook
-3/4" hairpin (homemade, just with wire, and a little help of my friends)

Finished Size

Small and average woman
The size I use is for small and average woman, but you can adjust it as you go.

Gauge

70 loops each side 14" long, 1/2" wide.

Notes

Hairpin lace tutorials are found in different links.

The Pattern

For an average (small) woman,
10 stripes of 80 (70)loops eacch side,
10 stripes of 35 (25) loops (for sole),
10 stripes 45 loops for the leg.
Do use a marker (I use a safety pin), where you end every row, so they go the same way when you join them.
Zig-zag strip joining
There will be 3 holes, one for the leg, the other for the toes and the middle for the heel.
Work all loose ends.
Join one (main) yarn with the hook, and work evenly sc.
Toes and heel, place markers at both sides.
2-10 th row sc diminish at both sides where the markers are.
Measure your feet, as they must feel cozy, so you can add-substract some rows. Sew the ends.
Leg, Do a sc round, and then a shell (1 sc 1 hdc 1 dc 1 hdc 1 sc)the next, skip 2 sc and do another shell.
Use a baby cord, or twisted yarn cord for ornament, as they will fit very comfortable.
I made an accent with some irish crochet leaves.

Whimsical Bathroom Rug

Introduction

This is my second crochet project. It is a rug for my bathroom in the appropriate colors to match my bathroom decor. Like my 1st project, I found a pattern that gave me the inspiration to create my own thing. I am still a beginner, so the projects are fairly easy, and this project is very easy! This time around I learned my lesson and wrote the pattern down as I went along. I did not do that with my 1st project. So I am learning as I go and I am totally enjoying crochet every step of the way! I hope you all enjoy this pattern and I hope it inspires you to do something as well.

Materials List

4 ply yarn
20 oz. of various color choices - This rug used 5oz. each of Lavender, Teal, Colbolt Blue and Yellow
Hook size I/9
Yarn needle

Finished Size

25x40 1/2 inches

Gauge

4sc = 1 inch
2sc rows = 1 inch

Notes

The yarn used on this project is called "Caron - Simply Soft Eco". It is a polyester fiber made from 100% recycled plastic bottles.

The Pattern

RUG STRIPS (make 10)

Row 1 - Chain 10, sc in 2nd chain from hook, sc in each rem ch across to make 9 sc per row, sc 14 rows, Change color and sc additional 14 rows. Continue changing color ever 14 rows until you have completed 140 rows, or 9 bricks of 14 rows each. At row 140 sc 7 rows of one color and finish off at row 147

*changing colors: Each full row has 10 and 1/2 bricks, each of a different color. Each full brick is 14 sc rows; Each 1/2 brick is 7 sc rows. Each full
strip totals 147 sc rows. Fasten off each strip at row 147. You can vary your rows by doing 8 full bricks and 5 half bricks, 9 full bricks and 3 1/2 bricks (etc), or any combination you want.

*If you follow each row to instruction having 10 full bricks and one 1/2 brick at the end, when putting together strips be sure to flip every other row horizontally so that every other row has a 1/2 brick on top side.
I varied each row differently as you can see in the picture. Be creative! ;o)

Rows 2 - 147 REPEAT

FINISHING

Sew strips together using a whip stitch and do each in one color of yarn. NOTE: You could change color of yarn to correspond with one of the colors
of the bricks. That might give the rug a "cleaner" look, but I preferred using a solid color to make a solid line as I think it adds character to the piece.
