How to Make Crocheted Shawl Tie

Introduction

The Shawl to which the tie is to be used should have at least 5/8 to 1 inch buttonhole loop or (ch3-sp) at the neck area through which the tie is to be threaded. One can easily add loops on both sides of the shawls neck area even if the afghan or shawl had been completed.

The approximate length of the tie is 24 inches including the tie buttons. One can lengthen or shorten by decreasing or increasing the number of chains made.

The tie is used just like a shoe lace.

Materials List

same type and color of yarn the shawl or afghan is made from.
Same size of hook used on shawl/afghan.

Finished Size

24 inches or more according to one's preference.

Gauge

n/a

Notes

Stitches used: Ch, sc

The Pattern

Make a knot on tail end of yarn and tighten it. (This is to bind the ply together so that the hidden ends of yarn does not peek out like a horse's tail). Cut the starting tail of the yarn (not the working end)close to the slip knot(about 1/8 inch, just made.

With the working end of yarn make a starting slip knot 1/2 inch away from the first knot, to start crochet Ch (chain).

Ch4. Sl st (Slip Stitch) on the 1st ch of ch4 in order to form a ring. 8 sc over ring. Note: Tack the starting tail so that it is encased in all the sc that is being made. Connect to form a ring (slip stitch on the 1st sc). First tie button is made.

Spirale

Introduction

This is a simple purse pattern, perfect to make as a gift or simply to keep for yourself!

This was first published on my blog http://hookylove.blogspot.com/

Materials List

You will need around 55 metres of aran weight yarn (I used Patons Dew) a 4.5mm crochet hook, two buttons, some material for lining, a yarn needle, a sewing needle, some thread, a 10cm x 5cm purse frame and some textile glue. (I got the frame and glue from http://www.u-handbag.com )

Finished Size

Diameter tbc

Gauge

diameter after 9 rows = tbc, 16sts = 10cm wide to fit purse frame.

It's easy enough to adjust the purse size depending on the frame. The purse diameter can be increased by adding rows follwing the same increase of 9 sts per row (or omitting rows for a smaller diameter) and the top of the purse can be adjusted by increasing or decreasing the number of htr in the centre of row 10. For more depth add rows of dc.

Notes

All terms used in this pattern are in UK terminology:

st - stitch
sts - stitches
blo - Back loop only
Ch - chain
sl st - slip stitch
dc - double crochet
htr - half treble
tr - treble
dtr - double treble
WS - wrong side
RS - right side

The Pattern

Purse body - make 2

Ch5 sl st into 1st ch to join.

Row 1: Ch 2 (counts as dc) 8dc in circle. (9sts)

Do not join. Work rows in a spiral. Mark end of each row with a stitch marker and move up as purse progresses. All sts worked in blo.

Row 2: 2dc in each dc around (18sts)

Row 3: (Dc in next dc, 2dc in next dc) Repeat around. (27sts)

Row 4: (dc in next 2dc, 2dc in next dc) Repeat around (36sts)

Row 5: (dc in next 3dc, 2dc in next dc) Repeat around (45sts)

Row 6: (dc in next 4dc, 2dc in next dc) Repeat around (54sts)

Row 7: (dc in next 5dc, 2dc in next dc) Repeat around (63sts)

Row 8: (dc in next 6dc, 2dc in next dc) Repeat around (72sts)

Row 9: (dc in next 7dc, 2dc in next dc) Repeat around (81sts)

End of spiral rounds.

Ear Warmer

Introduction

I have created a pattern for an ear warmer. I needed something to keep my ears warm while I did not have ear muffs. It really does keep my ears warm too. I hope you try it out and like it as much as I do.

Materials List

Any yarn will do.

1 Skien of your choice in color.

Any size hook I used a G, just as long as it fits you when your finished.

Yarn needle.

Scissors.

Finished Size

Depends on the hook, your head size, and the way you crochet as we all crochet differently.

Gauge

Not important in this pattern, just as long as it fits you in the end

Notes

ch, sc, dc, sl st, sts.

The Pattern

Ch. 10 ( or chain as many that will cover your ears ).

Rnd 1: Sc in all sts of the ch you have made. ( 10 sts or however many sts you have created )ch 1, turn.

Rnd 2: Sc in all sts. At the end ch 3, turn. ( 10 sts or however many sts you have created).

Rnd 3: Dc in all sts. At the end ch 1, turn. ( 10 sts or however many sts you have created).

Keep doing this pattern til you are completely done and you know it will fit your head. When you are done with the pattern, use a sl st to seam one end to the other, cut a tail long enough to weave ends in and then use a yarn needle to weave in ends and you are done. Pattern should go as follows: 2 rows sc, 1 row of dc until you are done. Hope you enjoy! I know I do.

Plus-Size Armwarmers

Plus-Size Armwarmers

Introduction

This is a pattern for Plus Size Arm Warmers. There are a lot of arm warmer - wrist warmer patterns out there and most are made for thin long arms. My chubby arms and wrists are large and get larger as they go up toward the elbow. I came up with this pattern for myself but thought others might want to have a simple arm warmer pattern that they can tweak to fit their unique arms. :)

Materials List

Size H/8 5.000mm Hook
2 skeins Patons SWS (soy wool solids) I used Natural Raisin and Natural Moss
Stitch marker
Tapestry needle

Abbreviations:
sc = single crochet
sl st = slip stitch
hdc = half double crochet
dc= double crochet
ch= chain
st = stitch

Finished Size

Size L - XL (customizable to your arms)

Gauge

Gauge is not known. For thicker yarn weight like one used above, you will need less stitches. (use your arm width and length of armwarmers you wish as a guide)

Notes

This was a thicker yarn, if you use a thinner weight yarn you will have to increase the # of stitches for length and width.

The Pattern

Natural Raisin:

Start out with a chain of 26. Then sc in second ch from hook. Single Crochet in each st across. (25stitches)

chain1 turn (each row)

Single crochet in each stitch across for 13 rows

Slip Stitch in the first 8stitches, then single crochet in the remaining 17 stitches. (This is the hole for the thumb) chain 1 and turn

Single crochet in next 17stitches, chain 7, then sc in last stitch. Chain 1 turn

Sc in each stitch across. (25stitches) ch 1, turn
Repeat this 13 more rows.

You'll have a total of 26 rows.

Finish off

Fold the 'square' in half matching up the 'thumb holes'.

You will now need to thread your tapestry with the yarn you will be using to sew up the armwarmers. (I used natural raisin)
