Moving forum "comments" to other topics

Ok. How can we keep forum threads on topic? Since the format is Forum Topic > comments, the comments essentially serve as posts to that topic. And when a comment is made to a forum topic, and the comment is *off*-topic, then a moderator might want to move it to a more relevant topic.

See, for example illiane's recent comment on the Beta Testers Please Read First thread.
She poses a good question/request, but I'd like to move it to a more visible place -- either to a post that's already been made about Flickr, or as a brand new topic in Bug Reports.

In other words -- how can Forum comments be treated like forum posts instead of like comments (except in the spam sense)?

Once a node has been assigned a "type" it cannot be changed to a different type from within the Web-based GUI. (It can be done by hand in the database, but it's messy and moderately complicated.) Sorry. :/

No, I'm not talking about changing the type of node, but rather the location of a forum "comment." (I'm now slammed with remembering why I refused to use the Drupal forum on the old site -- it doesn't work like a forum!)

When a comment like illiane's original is made on a thread and is off-topic, I (or you, or a moderator) should be able to move the comment to a more relevant thread. This at least would take care of a vast majority of off-topic comments (I get that we can't easily start a new topic with the comment, since that would involve changing the node type).

Is that doable? Someone *must* have hacked the forum to allow for moderation, eh?

Ok. Hold on a sec. I'm partly confused.

I think this is all okay. I'm conflating functionalities. It's a given in a BB to be able to move a topic from one forum to another (to keep things organized), with the option of leaving behind a shadow of the original so people looking for it will know where to go. I believe we have this functionality.

It might be fine not to be able to move an individual comment. That seems like a standard limitation.

Ok. Consider this issue solved, in my own psychological playground.

Topics can be moved. That's how we move things into "Resolved." Comments cannot be promoted to Topics. There may be a hack for this, but it's not one that I'm aware of. But since it's resolved I'm moving this topic to the Resolved category.
