importing Creative Commons licenses (and implementing moving forward)

Categorized As:

I can't believe I forgot this earlier! Most (not 100%, but more like 95%) of the patterns and articles on the old site are covered under CC licenses. The info shows up in the sidebar, using the Sidecontent module (this module added a box to the content creation page -- anything put in there would show up in the sidebar). These somehow need to be brought into the new site. I'll look into whether there's a CC module for 5.x for new content. How do you think the old content should be handled? If it needs to be a major copy/paste into a new block or some such thing, I can make a pot of coffee and do it. Heh.

I found two quickly. One is ready for 5.x (Copyright; not sure if it supports CC, but it mentions supporting several license options and images, which makes me think it does, or that I can make it). The other is only 4.7 (Creative Commons; doesn't seem like there's been activity since March). Have you heard of/used either? I'll install Copyright for now and see how it works.

Ok. I've installed Copyright and will set up all the CC licenses for it. I have it set to display a Copyright block in the interior sidebar on all patterns/* and tips/* pages -- I have pathauto set up to create those paths. There's a "copyright" section on the content creation pages.

Related to all this -- how can I alter the order of the sections on content creation pages? For example, I want to make sure the Copyright info is prominent - not buried at the bottom of the page.

Not sure how the module works.. I thought that things generally appear in alphabetical order for the "extra" things.. We might have to do an entirely custom layout for the CCK forms.

It's for version 4.7, but I'm not sure if a lot has changed...

Cool. I've bookmarked the page and will examine further after I do the other stuff ("the other stuff" purposely left undefined. Order 1: drink coffee to become coherent).

The module inserts a copyright notice at the end of the content (pattern or tip), but this notice doesn't show up on print-friendly pages, and I'd really like it to. I can't see an option in either module for this. Any ideas?

print-friendly pages isn't working at all post-upgrade. I'll look into this.

Thanks.

ETA: Weird. The module is enabled; I went to edit its settings. It was set not to have the p-f link enabled (although the link was displaying in the sidebar already), so I enabled it. I also set other settings, and removed reference to a path for CSS, in hopes that using defaults would clear things up. No dice.

Print friendly is now working again (it looks like the URLs changed in the upgrade? or the path auto stuff was changed? not sure what happened).

The output pages can be themed... not sure about including the copyright stuff ... yet. I'm sure it's doable though. I've added it to my list.

Awesome. Also, cross the CC stuff off your list -- it's showing up on print-friendly pages now. :)
