Pictures issues when uploading a new tip

Categorized As:

I tried to upload a tip. And I have 2 questions 1. the picture is was not showing up, when I used the insert picture box. The picture I was uploading is a flickr picture and I am using the static url and your insert picture box. It shows up when I am typing, but not in the preview or main page. (The tip for the flickr picture worked, but maybe you can highlight was people should change? like flickr-photo:id=230452326,size=s

2. Only a few words show up on my tip. Like the first sentence.

We've scrapped the Flickr stuff in favour of the tree icon (insert the URL of the photo). Does that resolve the picture part of the problem?

I'll check to see if there's a maximum word count for the tips...there shouldn't be... What's the URL of page where the tip does NOT appear in its complete glory?

Here's the link to the oddly truncated tip Robyn tried to post: http://beta.crochetme.com/cme/tip/how-move-or-get-rid-buttonhole

Aha!! The content wasn't in the right place. "Author" is a shorter field and meant to hold the author of the quote (so that you can post things that other people said). The long part of the content is the field above that ("quote"). Robyn had put the title into
the quote field by mistake (leaving the author, which is a short field, to receive the tip text). Hopefully that makes sense? :)

So, when Robyn tried to add the tip, it was before I changed the way the submission page is set up, which is now set to ask for Title (one line box) and Tip (body box)? We shouldn't have "author" in there at all, since users should only be posting their own, original content for tips/tricks.

The whole idea behind having the Tips & Tricks be quotes initially was because we wanted to be able to do a random rotating block of tips somewhere. I think that's now irrelevant though? My guess is that we should scrap the "Quotes" module and just use a CCK content type that actually matches what we want the section to do. If we still want a randomly loading box I'm sure I can write a little script for it....

Nod to the first. We don't need a rotating box, since Tips should be able to range from a sentence or two to a whole treatise on a particular technique (I'm hoping people will write up tutorials). So it does sound like CCK is a better bet. We can get a wee bit of rotation on the main Tips/Tricks page where recent posts will show up, favourites, etc.

Do you want to set up the new CCK? Just let me know...

Can't say I have a full grasp of CCK. You will likely do it lickety-split, while I will likely bumble around. But I'll be happy to write up all the helps, etc. *grins sheepishly*

heh. ok.

  1. Title
  2. Tip
  3. Image

Are there more fields than that?

Can't think of any...

Added. We'll need to get some new tips added in there to see if the displays are working or not though... (I've uninstalled the quotes module as well.. there were only three quotes using that system so I thought it would be safe to scrap it.)

No longer using the quotes module. Now using a custom content type for "tips." Marking this issue as "resolved." (Although there might new issues with the new system.)
