From A Hotel Room In Penticton, BC...

Kim Werker. Photo credit: Pamela BethelPenticton, BC is about a 5-hour drive from Vancouver, and it's one of the most beautiful drives I've ever taken. We're here for a good friend's wedding, and we passed through rain, snow, fog, and bright sunshine to get here to enjoy the last bit of summer on Lake Okanagan. By the time we get home, autumn will be securing its footing, and I'll bring my sweaters and layers to the front of my closet in preparation for shorter, cooler, rainier days.  Fall is my favourite season, and this fall is a huge one for me, and for Crochet Me.

We're on the cusp of implementing some great upgrades to crochetme.com that will expand the interactivity and ease of use of the site. I'd been hoping to have them up and running by the launch of this issue, but have patience, dear readers, they're coming. In the meantime, I'm excited that we're using the site in a new way in this issue, by hosting a crochet-along for a pattern I hope you'll love as much as I do. Amy O'Neill Houck designed a top-down raglan sweater pattern that can be adapted to any yarn and any size, and she's hosting the crochet-along herself. So, what's taking you so long? Go join up!

And speaking of joining up, I can't wait to hit the road in two weeks! Eeee! I'm going with Shannon Okey (the Knitgrrl herself), and we might just be coming to a town near you. Wanna say hi? I'd love to say hi back atcha! Here's our schedule, which will be updated over the next few weeks.

CIBC Run For The CureYou'll notice the first event on our tour is to join up with Team Knitty to participate in the CIBC Run For The Cure in Toronto. Our goal is to join fiber forces to raise $10,000 for breast cancer research and prevention. I'd ask you to raise your hand if you don't know someone whose life has been affected by breast cancer, but I have a sinking feeling very few of you would respond. Plus, I can't see you. But I can tell you that if you're reading this and you were to donate just a buck to help us reach our goal, the readers of Crochet Me alone could more than surpass our goal. Just sayin'. Think of how it might feel to join thousands of women in support of an important cause. Swipe the button, add it to your blog, and help spread the word.

Now, go enjoy fall. Patterns are here; features are here. I hear your hooks calling.

Cheers,

Kim, Ed.

His Ms. Werker,
I have enjoyed your website and reading your recent articles in several crochet/knitting magazines. I have a question about where to locate a pattern in one such article. The article was in "Knit.1 The TV Issue", Fall 2006, article: Web Chat/Crochet at Play on page 14 -- the item I'm looking for is the cute MP3 cozy which is pictured in the article. It says it was designed by Linda Permann. Could you help me out in finding that pattern or one similar to it. I'm so happy that crochet is making a comeback in a BIG way. It's about time! Thanks in advance for any help you can give me -- it's appreciated!

I am new to your site and I LOVE it! I co-own a yarn shop in the Seattle area and I am the lone "true" crocheter at the shop. Well, I've managed to convince several of our knitting diehards to at least TRY some crochet with great success! But I am always looking for hip crochet patterns and/or trying to design my own. If you are ever in need of some patterns to post, I would love to contribute. And since we are so geographically close - it would be fun to come up for a visit or have you come down to the shop for a workshop!

Thanks again for the great site. I'm looking forward to many more visits to your site.

I love your site! People are always surprised to find out that I crochet because of my age, and my tattooed/edgy appearance doesn't really lead people to believe I sit at home on the weekends making scarves & such for friends. My grandma taught me how to crochet as far back as I can even remember & I've never stopped. I'm glad to see some cool patterns on your page, especially the fingerless gloves. I sell scarves at work, and with leg warmers & stuff like that coming back into style I think I may be able to sell some of the fingerless gloves too...I need a good leg warmer pattern now. :)

Love the site! I'm very excited about a new book I found at the bookstore, and I thought y'all might like to know about it. It's called "Get Your Crochet On", and I really like it. The author has made lots of hats for folks like Erikah Badu, Common and Musiq Soulchild. I was excited to see the styles, especially since a friend of mine is a Rastafarian, and I had promised him a long time ago that I would make him a tam. I've tried several times, but even when my efforts weren't truly awful, they were'nt ever very good. With this books help, I made a beautiful large tam in about 3 and a half hours today, and it looks really really good.

No, I don't know the author, and no, I'm not in the habit of promoting people, but I thought this book and author definitely needs to be widely known !

Keep up the great work.

Hi Helen,

Thanks for your comments. Look for more about this book when our winter issue comes out in a couple of weeks.

Cheers,
Kim
