Zakumi is a cheetah. He is the mascot of the 2010 soccer World Cup in South Africa. The name Zakumi is a composition of ZA, the lettering denoting Zuid Afrika (South Africa in Dutch) and "Kumi", which means 10 in languages across South Africa. More important: he is cute and huggable.
It took two weeks to design and make Zakumi. The first version was too tall, so I had to shorten him to give him a boyish look. It's all basic crochet so not difficult. Because there are many parts it was a lot of work. The face was difficult too. Took me a long time to get it right.

This is astonishing! One can tell how much love went into this crocheted Zakumi. I already like the mascot anyway... :o) So I take it you're a soccer fan? Who do you think will win the World Cup? My guess and hope is an African team...maybe Ivory Coast?
