Hi, I am happy to find this forum! I have taken up crochet again, having last made some simple afghans in the 1980's. What led me to picking up the hobby again is that I have bought some soft and fluffy hand-made crocheted scarves the last few years at craft shows and I get the scarves home and they shed like crazy on my coats! Or the scarves are from acrylic yarn that is rough and doesn't drape well or feel very good.

That led me to the decision to crochet my own scarves. I want good soft yarn that doesn't shed. Perhaps chenille, also bulky yarns would be good. I also want to try more contemporary scarf styles. (no offense to the ladies I have bought scarves from, but their scarves all look and feel like the scarves my grandma made 30 years ago.) Can you give me some guidance to good brands of yarn to try?

thanks for any advice!

For chenille, lion brand makes a nice kind that isn't too sheddy. In acrylics, for softness and drape i like caron simply soft. I also like Plymouth, Cascade, and Debbie Bliss brands too. For scarf patterns I would suggest getting a book on crochet stitch patterns and just playing around with mixing and matching or doing long repetitions.
