Need help with baby dress

I am making a baby dress and would like to know if anyone knows how to make a lining for the dress? I know my grandmother did this when I was young but passed away several years ago! I would be so very grateful!!!!!!!!

Something easy you might consider is finding a slip that is the same size or can be easily altered to fit and then sewing it inside the dress.

What I did was to make my own. ( a lining is really just a slip sewed into a dress anyway so I just made the slip to fit the dress but didn't sew them together.)

I hate to sew, so I made it as simply as possible. First, I pinned the front and back panels of the crochet dress to some heavy tissue paper and traced around them to create a pattern.( don't forget to add 5/8inch to where the shoulder seams and the side seams will be, as a seam allowance. Also, make sure you follow the OPEN neckline of the dress so that you will be able to pull slip over baby's head)

DO NOT use your crochet work as a pattern because one slip of the scissors would be disasterous!

Next, pin the tissue pattern to your fabric and cut around pattern.

-With right sides of fabric together, pin together side seams and sew together. Do likewise for shoulder seams.

-press seams flat, turn slip right side out, and try the dress and slip together to make sure everything is going to work.

- assuming all is well, turn slip inside out again and finish seams.(using a zig zag stitch on the raw edges is usually easiest)

You could turn under neck and hem and stitch them to finish them(time consuming, burned fingers, you didn't leave enough fabric for it), or you could do what I did.

Add fasteners of your choice to the neckline and Voila!

I have followed this methode a few times now and it seems to work well. Let me know if i've left anything unclear.

Thank you so much! I will try. Your instructions are exactly what I was thinking only I was going to tack the slip to the crocheted dress. I have sewn my daughters clothes when she was little but it has been many years now.
