I recently looked at the book "Not Yo Mama's Crochet". I wasn't interested in buying it because about half of it is how to, but there was one pattern that I thought was just too cute. It is called a "WHO" (as in Dr. Seuss) hat. It had a silly three prong curlyque on the top and had three scallopped layers. I'd love to make one for myself or one of my daughters. Any thoughts on locating either "the" pattern or something similar.
Have you ever tried to make a pattern up? Might take some doin and some figuring and maybe a little math for increases and decreases... but sure sounds like fun.

Yarn is a state of mind: If I have yarn I don't mind! Jules
I had the book from the library and I tried the who hat pattern but I think I did something wrong/didn't understand the pattern (I don't get on with patterns very well)You could just make a beanie with a slightly pointy top and add the curly bits yourself-the one I made only fits a baby doll so I know something was amiss but it was fun anyways.
Oh yes,I run with scissors...
These patterns can be tricky! That is my hardest thing right now: learning to read the pattern and understand the stitches--so I know where you are coming from.
Nothing I make is ever perfect-but nobody knows...
may want to try searching crochet hats up on a normal web based search engine, you might find it someplace for free; I love free web sites
