HI guys,

i am a newbie and finished a granny square blanket no problem but having a hard time figuring out how to put a sweater together....i even started the baby its cold outside sweater and am stuck at instruction # 28.

hoping someone can help me i have no one to ask on how to finish the baby jacket. i am using a pattern from coatsandclark.com called Elfin stripes. here is the link.

http://www.coatsandclark.com/cgi-bin/MsmGo.exe?grab_id=456&page_id=8783360&query=elfin+stripes&hiword=STRIP+STRIPE+STRIPED+STRIPING+STRIPS+STRIPY+elfin+stripes+

So i finished the body section the basic rows but then it says to Divide for fronts and back - Right front.....what does this mean? am in folding it in three or something......

can anyone help me please????

thank you,

K

It's not telling you to divide; it's telling you that now you'll work the right front, back, and left front separately. Then it tells you how to start with the right front.

"Divide for fronts and back" is not a direction for you to follow. It's a heading for the next section so you know where you are in the instructions. It's also a common convention, so you'll see this confusing phrase in lots of patterns.

Good luck.

Thanks Pauline for the quick repsonse. i have one more stupid question.... :)

the pattern says "work even on these sts until 3" above division, end wrong side. "

and the gauge is 18 sts = 4" with larger gauge 20 rows = 4" with larger hook. which i am using b/c its calls for the 4 mm hook for body. how any rows am i supposed to do? 15 rows.....what is the division? the right front i am working on?

EDIT: so i was reading up on gauge so for the first part of pattern for Body (instructions row 1 and 2) and it tells me to "work in sc, work with stripes of 2 rows etc..untill 4" from begining" does that mean that my whole piece should be 4" high and so i would just measure area till i get the 4" high?

i dont think i understand gauge...sorry please Help me...

sorry, the other pattern i used told you how many rows and this one doesnt....

i really appreciate the help... :)

Huh, I'm not too sure about row gauge in crochet since I've never made garments or had to rely on it (or paid it that much attention). I just work until the length is right and matches the inches it's supposed to be. Stitch gauge, as in stitches per inch, is usually much more critical. Sorry, not that helpful.

Let your tape measure be your guide on this garment. I assume you are matching the stitch gauge so the garment will fit around the baby.

Hi, I'm fairly new to crocheting, I so want to make the baby it's cold outside sweater for my granddaughter. it is just soo beautiful! But I need it in a size 2T and I can't figure out how to convert it from the pattern size of 6 to 12 months up to 2T. don't the arms change and everything?

any help would be great! thanks.
