Hello! I'm new to crochet me and fairly new to crochet. I've picked up amigurumi and am making a hamster for my niece, she is just over a year. and just realized the eyes might me a choking hazard!
I used Darice safety eyes with a plastic washer. Are they safe? Does anyone have experience with a kid gnawing off the eyeballs?! Do you suggest an alternative?

Embroidery is always an alternative and can be very cute. I have no experience with the safety eyes.
I second that idea, Pauline because of course the little ones are going to gnaw those eyeballs! Yum!! ps I want to see that hamster!

I've used safety eyes in various sizes, and once that washer is on, it's not coming off. If your crochet fabric was very loose, I could imagine the washer slipping through with a lot of gnawing and/or stretching of the stitches, BUT I usually can barely get the post in between my stitches, and the washer is usually significantly wider than that. Wouldn't hurt to try it on a scrap of the same yarn/hook/stitch and see if you can get it to come off. I think they're pretty safe.
