Yarn substitutes

I found a pattern for a shawl on this site that I want to try. The yarns suggested are Mohair and Alpaca. Can anyone suggest less pricy yarn substitutes that will have similar properties? I'd like to try the pattern once and then if I really like it I might buy the alpaca and mohair.

You might check out the Lion Brand site or the Carron site or the Coats and Clark (Red Heart) site for a mix of acrylic and mohair or acrylic and alpaca or, with luck, all three. A touch of mohair with lots of acrylic should bring the cost down.
