straight rows?
Hi all,
I am fairly new to crochet. I have successfully made a few hats and am now moving on to bigger projects. I am working on making my two bridesmaids little purses that I can put their attendants' gifts in. The pattern is fairly simple (sc mostly throughout). It calls for 23 rows of sc for the front panel. The problem I am experiencing is that I am using a chocolate brown yarn (one of my wedding colors) and no matter what I do the ends of my rows are coming out crooked. I am following the pattern and chaining after the end of the row, but maybe I am missing a stitch at the end of my rows? I have mostly been working in rounds since I started crocheting and maybe rows are tripping me up? Any advice for getting your rows straight?

I've had issues with this myself. When you make your turning chain, that counts as the first stitch in the next row. So you don't crochet into the chain that's on top of the last stitch in the previous row, you skip it and work into the stitch next to that. If you do this consistently throughout your project the ends will be straight. I wish I had a picture to show you; pictures really are worth a thousand words. You can go to YouTube and look for crochet videos and there will be something there, I can guarantee it.
Good luck and congratulations on your upcoming marriage!

Thanks so much. I am starting this project up again, hopefully it will turn out better this time. Thanks again!
My understanding is that with single crochet you actually DO work into the first stitch. (For double and taller, you skip the first stitch.)
Which side is the crookedness on, or is it on both? Are you sure you are working into the final stitch as well? Have you counted your rows to see if you are decreasing?
