Schoolmarm vest in winter 2007 Interweave edition.

Categorized As:

Just started pattern and have done 1st rows 1 - 2 then repeat 1 -2 of shell pattern.

It then has a picot edging *(Sc,ch3,sc) in same st,sk next st;rep from *across.

Shell pattern is for 17 rows.

Do I only do the picot edging once or after 17 row.

I am still fairly new to crochet but want to be able to make this.

Please can anyone help me.

Thank you Kath

Hi Kath,

The picot edging is the last thing you do on the vest.

Here's how I read the instructions -

There's the introductory stuff about yarns, hooks, gauge, etc.

Then comes a section titled "Stitch Guide" which describes how to do three things, Shell, Shell stitch pattern, and Picot edging. This is information you'll use *later* when you actually start crocheting the vest.

It's easy to think this is the beginning of how to crochet the garment, I've done that, but it isn't. The information is given once, in this section, so it doesn't have to be repeated over and over later in the garment pattern.

Then comes a section titled "Body" which starts the actual instructions for making the garment. HERE is where you begin to stitch. You'll be doing the shell stitch pattern and shaping in shell stitch pattern for the rest of this page and on the top of page 52.

"Buttonband" is the next section and has the instructions for the buttonband and the waistband, mainly single crochet. Finally, the last step in this section, says, "Work 1 row of picot edging." That's the only place you work picots.

The final section is "Finishing", sewing on buttons, etc.

I hope that helps. Post if you find other confusing parts in this pattern. Patterns can be very confusing. Good luck to you.

Go, go, go girl!

I want to get some of those pretty wooden hooks. I think I've said that before. I did get some wooden double point sock needles which were very nice except they were knitting needles and double points at that.

It's just like a chain stitch except you poke the hook through existing stitches first.

Google found this illustration http://www.worldknit.com/howto/howtocrochet/cbegtechniques/c_slipstitch....

and this video, http://www.nexstitch.com/v_slip.html

Seems like you're tearing through that project!
