Sari-Rainbow-Mix
Has anyone ever crocheted with this? I bought 2 balls but haven't ventured to try it yet. The label says "Hand spun in Nepal as part of a community out-reach program...helping the earth and the people on it." It is Cotton and Rayon and is apparently made of recycled saris...neat!

Where I used to live, the owner of the LYS had knitted a bag with recycled sari yarn. It was gorgeous, but she said it was overspun, and had no give. Was more like cord than yarn. I've heard on other websites of people letting the extra twist out of the yarn, which could help.
Good luck, you'll certainly have a 1 of a kind item!
I knit a purse with some. I have to say, as beautiful as the yarn was, I hated, hated, hated working with it. It was twisted way too tight, just like Snarlingbadger says. I did untwist as I worked, but it was a total pain and I will never buy any again.

Hi.
I've found, if you spin, the best way to handle this yarn is to either ply it on itself for a really wild heavy yarn, or to ply it with a lighter weight single of something solid (black is often a good coice) to get a lighter yarn. Plying the yarn untwists it some, and combining it with another yarn can add an extra layer of texture to a peice.
Enoy it!

Hi Leelou, Sari yarn is very hard to knit or crochet, and makes a very heavy and stiff garment - I have one to unpick, grrr! Its incredibly hard on the soft tissues of your fingers anywhere they have come in contact with the stuff! The colour also bleeds so it requires gentle hand washing. In short its probably the most user unfriendly yarn you could pick to work with!
That said, it also looks fantastic as an accent yarn and the colours are gorgeous so its worth persisting with. You could try unspinning it to get rid of the overtwist, but may find the yarn just falls apart. I prefer it blended with mohair, but thats just my humble opinion.
Have fun with it, but take it gently!
cheers, Caroline
There is no such thing as too much fibre, just not enough storage space!
Argh the Sari yarn....
Hubby bought me some as a present. I have had a go of crocheting with it a few times and I have to say, I have on every occassion given up and unpicked it!!!
The above tips are helpful and I am glad I am not alone in having difficulties with this yarn! I will have another go and succeed!!!
