In the round single loops?
Hi all,
I'm just wondering if anyone else does this:
When you're crocheting a small item (like a small stuffed toy), do you ever just crochet into a single loop (FLO or BLO)? I find myself doing this sometimes, as it seems to make the stitches less bulky and the single loops can be easier to find if you're doing multiple rounds. Of course, I only do that if it doesn't mess with the actual shape of the object.

I've admired a number of toys but haven't started one yet. When I do, I might need your tip.
I've just kicked off some mittens for my mother-in-law (she has really bad arthritis and I thought mittens would be more useful than gloves when her hands are bad) and I started doing FLO for a change. The yarn is fine but fuzzy and I'm using a relatively small hook and the FLO seems to make the fabric more flexible. I'm doing joined rounds and doing FLO on the RS and BLO for the WS and I'm getting this wonderful raised stripe pattern.
It's a neat little trick and I wouldn't have thought to do it until I read about it here. =)
I'm glad you can use this:)
It does make the fabric a bit more flexible, and you do get a little striped pattern depending on the piece and the side. It seems to be most handy to me when doing joined rounds. I've done a little snowman doorknob hanger and a small teddy bear with it, which I'll probably post pics of after the holiday.
Happy Thanksgiving all!
PS- I just noticed that Teresa uses BLO SC throughout her dad's cap ("Hats and Caps" in the FO forum), so this concept is not my original by any means. It's probably used in many other patterns. She also mentions the stretchier fabric it produces, and you can see the nice little stripe pattern in makes.
