Pictures and links to flickr: how???

Categorized As:

I understand, more or less, about using HTML tags (I learned to make web pages using a text editor! that was wayyyy back when we hand-carved our web pages in the time-honored way of old world craftsgeeks).

But I would like some guidance on inserting a picture into a forum post. What does it mean that the forum "automatically links back to your image hosting provide (supports flickr)"?

I started a flickr account and put up a few pix. I can put the URL for the flickr pix into a post and I see that it turns into a clickable link. But is there something cooler and more automatic to do with pictures than that? Do tell! Thanks!

Hmmmm.... I thought I had this figured out, putting in the bit of HTML code for my picture that the flickr site generates. And I could see my picture in the Preview, and I could even see it on the Forum site after I submitted it, and then it disappeared! This happened in the socks, socks, sock topic under crochetalongs, and also at the topic for Doris Chan's Everyday Crochet that I started under crochetalongs. Hmmm! Is it me or is it the site?

My sock are still there!

My picture on the Doris Chan topic at http://crochetme.com/forum/jewel-top-doris-chan-everyday-crochet ... ? HA! Now it is there THREE times; a while ago it was not there at all! But hmmm? now it's not there again!

Here's the format I'm using to post pictures (picture ID replaced here with xxx; also I'm leaving off the < > that should be around it, so it will show up as text here:

img src="http://farm2.static.flickr.com/xxxx/xxxxxx_xxxx.jpg" width="320" height="240" alt="Jewel top: corner increases" /

ALSO: is there a way to delete a comment? Or do I just have to replace it with a blank comment?

Did you set your flickr user name in your profile? We have set it up so that you may only link to pictures that you have uploaded to Flickr. (Which we have done on purpose to respect the copyright of the photographers.)

As for deleting comments: I believe you can delete the comment if it is within the first 20 minutes or so of writing the comment, after that point you can only edit it.

I hope that helps?

Emmajane, thank you so much for your reply! I kept thrashing around after writing my questions, and I DID find someplace in the FAQ that mentioned entering my flickr user name in the profile (how did I miss that the first time? I had to click on "Customize your account" in the sidebar then another "How do I customize my account" in the FAQ to get there). But now it's working!

Now I know to go to Flickr and click on "all sizes" above my picture to get the code that will turn into a picture after I put it in my comment!

It is so much fun to get glimpses of you all working away behind the scenes to make this site function well! Hope you are getting some fancy socks out of all this, at least! Or some flowers. Flowers for you!

Best wishes --
Teresa

YAY!! Way to go!

We'll be adding more image helpers as time goes on (and maybe even the ability to drag-and-drop images from Flickr), I'm glad you were able to get your images working for now though!
