I have been crocheting things that didn't have to have a gauge but the other day I went to make something and I could not get my gauge right. It was something like 16 sc and 8 rows is 4 in. Well I can get the length but I can not get the hight. I tried a bigger hook then the hight was right but the length wasn't. So I tried to make my stitches looser and then both was off. I also tried another pattern and same thing.

Any suggestions?
