Neck warmer looking for a pattern

Categorized As:

Does anyone have a neck warmer pattern not a scarf .

Have seen this in a knitted form.

Looks like a polo neck fastened with nice large buttons very effective and would like to crochet for myself.

I know exactly what you mean, and I saw photos of several very recently, but where?? They may have been knits.

No buttons, but there is a pattern here for Baby, it's Cowled Outside!. There's also a Crochet-Alongs entry for it that includes my thoughts after completing one.

Pauline I did see Baby ,its cowled outside its very pretty that would do for me as I am able to put it over my head.

But thought of neck warmer for agift for a Dear old lady of 95 to help keep her cosy.

I will keep searching.

There's one that you don't need to put over your head at:
http://www.garnstudio.com/lang/en/visoppskrift.php?d_nr=93&d_id=33&lang=...

There's also one at the LionBrand website, but you need to register to see it (it's free).

Also, a moebius shawl, wide enough, can be worn around the neck and shoulders and cover the head, if we want. It's quite versatile and if it's big enough, it's really easy to put around your neck, even at 95!

Trying my best to make sure she keeps warm this winter!
Good luck

But did not know how to or which cr st would look like garter st as that is what the neck warmer is knitted in.

And Soleil saw your link to pattern before its very pretty may do it for myself sometime.

scot_kat,

The ridges run across the short direction, from long side to long side?

Working back and forth the short direction, you could single crochet in back loop only, this is usually used for ribbing, to get the ridges. Oops, you're from Scotland, make that double crochet.

Or, use a larger hook, and half treble crochet in back loop only.

Or, make a long foundation chain, better, a foundation double crochet row, as long as you want the neck warmer to be, and work treble, front post treble, treble, front post treble, etc. to get the ridges.

BTW, I was thinking you meant a shape that flared out over the shoulders and turned down at the top to make a collar.

Another design that would work and be simple to use is a short scarf with a big buttonhole at one end to pull the other end through. Or, similar, this pattern, http://home.swbell.net/amjack/MOM.htm I just searched through Crochet Pattern Central, scarves, http://www.crochetpatterncentral.com/directory/scarves.php , and it was much harder to find this kind of pattern than I thought it would be! If you do, look for patterns with the word 'neck' in their name. They use US terms mainly, so sc = dc, dc = tc, etc.

Good luck,
Pauline

I just saw this post and thought of this thread right away. It may be too late for you, but maybe it'll be helpful to someone else!

From the photo, it appears to be 11 sts wide, but she also says, "# of rows & stitches depends on how long or thin a neck you have."

Can you measure your recipient's neck, make a swatch, and calculate stitches and rows?

It also looks like it has a row of sc to finish off each long side.
