Nathalie's Shawl

Categorized As:

Hello everyone,

I've been catching up on my WIPS and have finished this shawl. The pattern is called Eva's Shawl from milobo (over on Ravelry):

This was made with some leftover Zephyr given to me by a friend to see what I thought about crocheting with it (she knits shawls with it). I really like it and have bought more Zephyr. Before blocking, it looked like it was going to be for my daughter, Nathalie (hence the name). Now, I think I may keep it for myself. You can see more photos on flickr and on Ravelry (same username everywhere).

I really like that shawl. Out of interest, how much wool did it take to complete it?

I am looking for ideas, as I would quite like to make a shawl for myself, once the wee angel's blanket is finished.

Thank you. The shawl is relatively easy, chains and dc's. After a few rows, you get the hang of the pattern and don't need to look at the instructions.

I've just weighed the shawl and I used less than 1.5 ounces of Zephyr (400 to 450 yards possibly). I could have made it a bit bigger but I ran out of yarn. I'm planning on making at least one more this time using a full skein, around 650 yds, in either blue or pink.

Thanks for that, I think you may have inspired me ;-)

The person who wrote the pattern is based in the south of England (not 100% sure where, possibly London). I lived in the south east until 4 years ago. The stitches used are therefore chains and trebles - beware the different crochet terms US vs UK.

I learned to crochet when I lived in N. Ireland. An aunt showed me how to do a granny square and then I was off. I started off with a giant granny square blanket and then moved on to thread crochet with the help of some magazines. Stretch yourself - you'll be amazed how easy crochet can be (there are some not so easy things also, but you can wait for that). The shawl looks harder than it is.

I want to see that blanket when you're done. And yes, crochet can be very addictive....

I live in Scotland, so I am only too pleased to hear that the pattern is from the UK. As a newbie to crocheting, the whole US v UK stitch names really confuses me!

You would really like to see it? Well ok, I will take some pics whenit's done and post them on here.

I am experiencing technical difficulties with it. I sort of made up the pattern, not at all complicated, but as I have no very experience of crocheting I had no idea of just how much wool it would need. I have been looking for something to make the wee angel since I had her, and decided a blanket woulkd be perfect, wanted it to be something she could keep. I sought out the perfect hand dyed Shetland aran. They even dyed some especially for me! I have reordered 3 times, I still need more and now they are waiting get more wool it to dye.

I know I am stark, raving mad!

Great job. I love how simple of a pattern it is, but how elegant it looks. I like it when people think I worked harder than I did.
