Mesmerize Sweater

Categorized As:

I just fell in love with the Mesmerize Sweater. The following is my problem, can anyone help Please?

On Round 4 of the Motif, the number of pattern stitches does not add up to the number of final stitches needed for the round.

[2 tr-blo in next st, tr-blo in next st] 5 times (=15)

[2 tr-blo in next st] 3 times (=6)

tr-blo in next st (=1)

[2 tr-blo in next st 2 times (=4)

I have added the parentheses to show my count.
My count adds (15 + 6 + 1 + 4 = 26).

The pattern states that Rnd 4 should finish with 40 sts.

I have it posted exactly as printed in the book. Someone please tell me what stitches I am missing. Thank you very much.

Kitty

I think you're missing 14 stitches. Sorry.

Where did you find this pattern - website, book, magazine? I would need to look at the pattern and photos to make a guess and so would others.

It could be the instructions are wrong so it's not your mistake.

I found the pattern in the new Crochet Me book. It is listed on pages 61 to 65. The motif part of the pattern is on page 63. Ever other part of the pattern, that I can tell, adds up correctly. I just don't know what part of the motif with the tr-blo is missing. I just know it needs to add up to an additional 14.

Here is the only picture online I could find. It is at the bottom of the page.

I'm looking at the pattern right now and you're right, the stitches don't add up... I made a diagram to have a better idea, and it turns out that the 26 stitches you have make exactly half a round, not a complete one...
But if you were to repeat the sequence once, you'd end up with 52 sts instead of 40, so I really don't know what to do to help you!!!
Good luck!
Maybe you could email Kristin directly to figure it out. I think you can find her on this website. If not, go to http://www.styledbykristin.com/contact-us/

Good luck!

I did email Kristin and got the following response

"Thank you for your interest in the Mesmerize Pattern. The swirl has 8
increases per round. If you make sure that there are 8 increases per
round, you will end up with 40 sts at the end of round 4."

I did not understand until I put it onto a bmp diagram. Just lines and dots. Round three finishes with 30 stitches. So round four only needs ten stitches extra. The pattern in the book is missing 14 single stiches. If arranged into the pattern at regular intervals. . . It should come out. But in Kristin response. . . Round 3 should end with 32 stitches. If the rounds increase by multiples of eight. I fear the book has some serious typos. I am going to go back to the book and rewrite the pattern minutly to get the multiples of eight. I should have it shortly. If you wish I can send you what I changed. Just email me through the website.

Sorry for the lame joke above. I notice (found the book) that there are 10 increase sts in round 4 to get from 30 to 40 sts, but the counts are truly off by 14 sts. I believe the counts are off in the plain, non-increase sts. There are only 6 of these in round 4 where there should be 20.

So what to do? You can continue your emails to the designer, or you can sprinkle 14 sts into the round while keeping the spirit of the designer's increase pattern. I think they are all trebles at this point, no doubles and no double trebles.

[2 tr-blo in next st, tr-blo in next 2 st] 10 times (=40) would get you there, but she may be avoiding, or seeking, stacked increases.

In any case, I'd believe the stitch count.

That's a dramatic sweater. I think you'll have fun wearing it.

Well I got the stitch count to work in increases of (8)
8 in rnd 1, 16 in rnd 2, 32 in rnd 3, and 40 in rnd 4. This is the increase I came up with. If anyone else wants to try this thing. (I did make a motif this way. It looks great.)

I used the book until rnd 3, then rnd 5 & 6 are okay.

Rnd 3: [2 dc-blo in next st] 6 times, [2 tr-blo in next st] 10 times - 32

Rnd 4: [2tr-blo in next st, tr-blo in each of the next 3 st] 8 times - 40

I´m from Spain, and I bought the book in Amazon, because i saw the Mesmerize Sweater. I love it, but I have the same problem on round 4 in the motif.
I think one possible solution is doing this:

RND 4: [2 tr-blo in next st, tr-blo in next 3 st]8 times- 40 sts.
RND 5: [2 tr-blo in next st, tr-blo in next 4 st]8 times- 48 sts.

I think that is the best option.

I have another dude. On the bodice and sleeve part it says:

ROW 8-9: Rep row 7 two more times, alternating blo for RS and flo for WS.
Turn sleeve around to work rows on the other half of motif that has thus far only been worked in rounds.

I don´t know if I have to fasten off after row 9 and then join the yarn in the other half of the motif or...
I don´t know. I´m very confused.

Sorry, but my english is not very good.

Nekane,

Yes you must fasten off at the end of row 9. Then join the yarn to the other half of the motif. I have written out the directions for the "Mesmerize Sweater". Click Here For The Instructions
