I purchased the Lattice Rose Rug pattern online (and exact yarn called for (TLC Cotton Plus) to make for my Mom as a birthday gift. It is coming along nicely, and I have no doubt that I will be finished by her birthday(JULY 17th). Although the pattern calls for working with double strands of cotton yarn, it still seems "floppy". The pattern notes say, "Use rug backing on back of rugs that are placed on floors other than carpet."

Can anyone tell me what "rug backing" is? Also, the pattern is very lacey "lattice", and I don't want anything too obvious that will show through and detract from the rug pattern itself.

I appreciate any and all suggestions.
