Hi from a "misplaced" Aussie!
Hi all, my name is Emma although I usually get called Em or occasionally Toady (my rather embarassing childhood nickname). I am an Australian who is currently in Edmonton, Canada for a working holiday.. although I'm not working at the moment, it's 3 weeks tomorrow since I arrived in Canada so I'm using that as an excuse as to why I haven't got a job yet.
The "cooler weather" back in Australia has nothing compared to here so I'm using that as an excuse to learn new crochet patterns and make myself a whole bunch of new accessories and articles of clothing to keep myself warm through my first ever 'white christmas'.
I learnt how to crochet when I was about 13 (I'm now almost 25) but it was just the basic granny square and it's only in the past few months that I've learnt single crochet (or double crochet as the Australians and English call it. We also call the US double a treble.). I also re-learnt the slip stitch and have made myself a few things using a combination of the three.
I have not designed any patterns but I am looking forward to sharing knowledge with other crocheters and hopefully using some of the patterns to add to my rather bare winter wardrobe.
Any questions about me, Australia in general or anything don't be afraid to ask, I don't bite... hard.

Hey there, welcome to Edmonton. If you are lucky, the deep freeze won't hit until January unlike last year when it hit in late October.
Have you visited Michaels craft store yet? I don't know which part of Edmonton you are in, but there is one on 137th Ave.
Good luck with the job search, it should be easy.
Hi Kim.
Yes I was lucky enough to visit a Michaels craft store when I was down in Calgary, left with 2 cross stitches to do for my mother. My house mate is a knitter so yarn is not an uncommon sight.
And I've got a group interview tomorrow night, so things are looking up on the job front... means more money for more yarn. I'm sure I'm not the only one who has those kinds of thoughts
Well, good luck with the interview!
I have a few cross stitch projects waiting in the wings too. I tend to bounce from one to the other but, at this time of year, I prefer to crochet. I try to save the cross stitch for the hot summer days when it's too hot to have yarn on my lap.
I'm going to be back at Michaels soon. I was looking at that new Bernat Bamboo yarn and I can't get it out of my head. I need to find a project that I can do with a bulky yarn so I can buy some. It is softer than soft!
I know this is an old thread but I just wanted to say hi from Australia. Edmonton just didn't work out (was living with very messy people, ugh! and I just couldn't get a decent job) so I cut my losses and came back to Australia. Needless to say I now have to remember all the forums etc I joined and re-introduce myself
Hey, Em! Where in Oz are you? I'm in country Victoria, soon to be Melbourne.
I'm in country NSW, up near Coffs Harbour. I've only been back a month but feeling a lot better to be back in familiar territory
Welcome back! And it's just beautiful up there. Not much going on with the yarn though, maybe? It's bloody hot! I'm sticking to thread projects at the moment. Tiny ones. :)
