Hi from east central Illinois
Hi everyone. I found this site just recently and decided to join the revolution. Heh.
Originally, I learned to crochet as a teenager but sort of left it behind for other things. Boys and school I guess.
In my early 40's I took it up again as a way to deal with the boredom of being stuck in airports as part of my job. And I guess I'd say I became obsessed.
I've worked my way through a lot of dishcloths and patterns that made no sense. At one point, getting so frustrated that I exlaimed that if we built houses from 'patterns' like so many of the crochet patterns I'd encountered, all our houses would have fallen down.
But, I forge on because this is too rich an art to abandon because of patterns I wasn't prepared to understand or because they were poorly written. Let's face it, we all live in houses poorly or better built. And we come to learn how to do it better.
I teach crochet on a part time basis and find it rather rewarding to help others speed past the frustrations I encountered.
I've focussed more on designing lately and since I sew well, am taking what I know about garment construction into crochet. But there's more to learn and so many things I'd like to do.
To me, crochet is a bit like gardening which is another passion of mine. I could spend the rest of my life doing it and maybe never master it all. But it's worth all the effort for the fruitful outcomes.
And I love tearing out mistakes. Wouldn't it be nice if life was like that? Just go back to the mistake and do it right the second time?
Anyway, here's to craft and art and finding another garden.

Hi DeLaCroche,
I'm glad you've joined us. I look forward to seeing some of your designs.

Welcome to Crochet Me! Yes, some crochet patterns are horribly written, especially ones you find on the internet. Have fun crocheting...it's almost time to start gardening, too!
