Help with crochet pattern
This is from the Berroco website/"Twyla" pattern. I would be very greatful if anyone could help me with the decreasing on this pat. It instructs you to Dec one half cluster at either both ends or at beg or end of the row. The pat also states as follows: When directions say to dec, work the dec listed below that applies.
1)to dec the first half cluster at beg of rows, work hdc in ch-1 of first cluster, then work in pat to end. work hdc over this st until next dec.
2)to dec the first half cluster at end of rows, work 1 hdc in ch-1 of last cluster, turn. work hdc in this st until next dec.
3)to dec the second half cluster at beg of rows, skip 1 hdc, work in pat to end.
4)to dec the second half cluster at end of rows, skip last hdc, turn.
My problem is they don't state in these areas that you dec, which half(first or second) of the cluster to dec. I have attempted this pattern several times, asked for help from others who crochet and also posted this question to the Berroco websites customer service. Please help make this more clear to me, I would really like to make this sweater. Thank you so much in advance. Sincerely, Diane(dlomt)

Here's my thoughts, taking clues from your question and from the instructions - you don't decrease the first half, one side, of a cluster and then the second half, other side, of a cluster. Instead you decrease to half a cluster which is one hdc. On the second decrease of the cluster, you skip the single hdc.
So, a cluster is 2 hdc. The first dec is to 1 hdc. The second dec is to zero hdc (skip the stitch).
I hope this didn't make it muddier.
Hi Pauline3,
Thank you for replying to my question. I am a Knitter at heart, but when I saw this sweater, I really wanted to make it. I do know how to crochet and how to follow patterns, but this one has really got me stumped. Your thoughts do make a little more sense. Let me explain how I am understanding you; for the dec at the begining of a row, you dec half of the cluster which is the first hdc in the cluster, the dec at the end of a row, you would omit the last hdc in the cluster, turn and chain for next row. Is this what you are saying?
Sincerely,
Diane "dlomt"
Without looking up the pattern again, I think that's it. Hook up a small swatch of the pattern and try it out. That will tell you quickly if you're right.
