hello from NYC!

hi! my name is sonia and i am new to crocheting. i was introduced to amigurumi through "cute with chris" and decided i had to learn how to make them, and now all i want to do is crochet all the time. so far i have three hats to my name and i am happy :)

i was looking through free pattern websites today and i found that there is a lot more out there for knitters in terms of ...everything. i don't know if that is because crochet is considered by some to be "lower" than knitting (which is stupid) or because it's less versatile or?

in any case i look forward to getting my crochet on!!

Hi Sonia,

I've read that there are far more crocheters than knitters, so it is odd that there is more for knitters. Follow the money - are knitters richer? I doubt it. More demanding of goods and services? Maybe. I think a lot of crocheters make up their own patterns or use patterns they get directly from friends and relatives, more so than knitters do. It's a mystery.

Welcome, Sonia!

I have no definite answer as to why crochet isn't as popular as knitting, but I do know that it goes in waves. Personally, I think it's taken us a few decades to recuperate from the trauma of the crochet wave of the 70s. :-D
