Hi friends.

I just found this forum so I'll have to get familiar with it. I taught myself to crochet when I was a teen. I think I could crochet just about anything from a pattern. Gauge is my nemises ~lol~. I want to explore free form, but not scrumbling.

I also sew and bead and combine the two however I can.

Greetings from Northern Colorado! I'm mainly a spinner, weaver and knitter, but I first learned how to use yarn to make something cool (and quit smoking) by crocheting a shawl during the crochet revolution of several decades ago. I loved the process, but was put off by the lack of stylish garments back then. And I think one crocheted TP cover is one too many, so I moved on to knitting.

Recently a friend made one of the items in the summer 2009 Interweave Crochet issue, which piqued my interest. I'm going to dive back into crochet by making the Szechuan sweater in the latest issue. I'm planning on using a different yarn, so will probably need to adjust the pattern if the gauge doesn't quite match.

I'm working a gauge swatch now, but am having trouble with yarn splitting. I'm using coned Brown Sheep Nature Spun Fingering yarn, will probably use an E or F hook. My LYS carries Boye hooks, which are fine, but for this yarn I think I need a hook with a sharper nose (is that what it's called?). Any suggestions?
