Hello
I've recently registered on here and thought I should start by saying hello.
I taught myself to crochet when I was in my teens and after a very, very large gap have recently taken it up again.
Some of my friends were knitting felted bags, I felt left out, can't knit, so found a crochet pattern instead.
It was so easy to pick back up that I thought it would be fun to use up some of the yarn mountain from when I had a knitting machine, but I had a heck of a job finding a pattern for something that I'd actually wear.
After a search and a half, I now have Crochet me and the Happy Hoooker, both of which are full of decent patterns. Just have to try and match them up to my existing yarn as I'm determined not to buy any more until I've made a dent in the old stuff.
I've picked a pattern in the Happy Hooker to start - Frou frou - which I'm making with two cones of four ply, worked together to get the correct tension. So far it's coming on a treat, I'm loving the stitch it's worked in.
If I can find a suitable yarn, I'm going to make the lovely cardi on the front of Crochet me next.
Ok, enough from me. I'm looking forward to exploring the boards and getting to know you all.

Hi Carole,
Frou frou, I'm trying to remember which one is Frou frou, will have to look it up. All the patterns in the book are good. I'm glad you rediscovered crochet and discovered this site.

Crocheted purses would eat up a lot of that yarn stash. Especially if you used two or more strands at a time. Don't be afraid to mix them up. You know, like one strand of worsted and one baby fingering yarn. Makes for some interesting combinations and maybe a better looking purse than your knitting friends are making. hmmm?
You could try out that tapestry crochet. The pattern for a bag is right here on this site. That uses up yarn and it is so nice and your friends will want to start crocheting when they see what all you're doing.
If you decide to mix up the yarns and you make a swatch up and decide its not quite right for a purse....you can find a really cute pattern to make little toys out of those swatches. The pattern is right here on this site. Swatchies, I think she calls them.
Can you tell I love hanging out here?
Ooh, some great ideas there, thanks!
After all, a girl can never have too many bags, right?
I do like the idea of mixing up the yarns. I'll take a look at that tapestry crochet bag.
Another way to use up lots of yarn fast is to get the huge crochet hook (19mm) and with at least 3 or 4 yarns held together you can make really fast blankets.
I did one for my baby that I called my "ugly duckling blanket" from yarn I was given. The three yarns were colors I would never have used and I had just got the huge hook and couldn't wait to try it. I figured I couldn't loose and used the ugly trio that surprisingly made a beautiful baby blanket. The colors totally changed when they are mixed. Anyway good luck with the pile.

I agree with you that a girl can never have too many bags. In the beginning I had a little bag. Then I needed a bigger bag. Diaper bags got me started on tote bags. And the race was on for the perfect bag.
