Greetings and questions about babylegs
Yeah yeah, my first post is one asking for help. I'll do the intro thread in the correct forum. :)
Has anyone made "babylegs"? Baby legwarmers?

I can't see buying them when I could make them, I am just kind of concerned about the gauge and elasticity of them. If I make them out of polyester regular worsted weight or even sport weight, I can't imagine crawling on them would be very comfortable. (And I break out when dealing with sheep wool, but alpaca and other naturals are copacetic). So what kind of yarn is more elastic than others?
Any suggestions? It looks like it could be just crocheted in one big circle, so it would be a matter of measuring how chunky the babies' legs are.

Those are so cute! Go for it.
I recently read that crochet is more elastic up and down than sideways, tested it on something I was doing, and it's true! So making the legwarmers with the rows running up and down the legs, not around the legs, will give them more elasticity.
I've seen non-wool sock yarn, looked nice and may solve the lump problem, but where did I see it? Sorry.
On another forum about crocheted socks, one person used the single crochet into double crochet, double crochet into single crochet stitch to make the fabric smoother to walk on.
Same source, someone said elongated single crochet is more elastic than single crochet.
Welcome!
Thanks for the hints! I truly appreciate it. I would have never thought about making the rows vertical instead of horizontal. That might solve most of the issues.
I just found a non-wool sock yarn, Berroco's Comfort sock yarn with lovely, slightly muted shades. http://www.berroco.com/shade_cards/comfort_sock_sh.html
