Good stitch pattern for hoodie or pullover

Categorized As:

Hi everybody! I'm trying to make a hoodie (cardigan-type) or a pullover. I'm not sure which one to choose just yet. I'm using Bernat Satin, light worsted weight yarn, and it's black, so I was wondering what stitch pattern may be good for my project. I've been trying to find the perfect stitch to use with this yarn I so adore. I've already checked CPC(and many other sites) and looked at some crocheted pieces, to determine if I'd use that stitch, but there was no chemistry between us. I wanted a stitch pattern that was a little more noticeable, if you know what I mean. If anyone has any suggestions for a stitch pattern that isn't too "holy" but isn't too stiff and thick and drapes nicely, I'd appreciate hearing from you!

Thanks for reading this! (Any difficulty of stitch is appreciated--this is by no means my first project :)
Again thanks!

I was looking for a non-lacy, workhorse, yet attractive stitch and, I think it was Annette Petavy, recommended half double crochet through the back loop. I've searched and can't find the post, though.

Thanks Pauline, did you mean Ice Blue Ribbon? It's hdc and worked in the back loop only. Right now I'm trying to play around with stitch patterns. I've tried making a hdc swatch, but the result wasn't exactly what I expected. Even so, I may make swatches with FLO and BLO, as they seem ideal. Thank you very much Pauline!

Maybe it was, but I don't think so. It was months and months ago. In any case, good luck.

Here's a note from a Caron pattern worked in sc in front loop only -
"When working a row of single crochet stitches in the front loops only, always work the last single crochet of the row in both loops, for stability."

I expect it would apply to hdc worked BLO, as well.
