eyes

Categorized As:

hello,
I'm looking for eyes to sew on crocheted dolls or animals. I've found same good hints in this forum and I would like to bye them from CR's crafts, but I don't know how to choose the size: it is written 9 mm, but what does it mean? is it the circumference of the eye or the length of the whole item?

please help me!!

For my dolls and toys, I use Sculpy Polymer Clay. It is really easy to make a bunch of eyes at once all the same size if you get some clay cutting tools. I got a variety pack of circles and ovals pretty cheap at Micheal's Craft store.

My son prefers it when I sew on buttons for eyes, so sometimes I do that too.

If you want to use clay, I glue them on (after the baking) with some Modge Podge craft glue (great for decoupage too!!) and they stay on great, even for my 6 year old boy.

I have also used felt (glued on with the same glue) as eyes and embellishments, but that is harder to make even.

As for your size, I just trust my creative judgment. I can see how big the eyes are going to be with the cutting circles (they are like tiny cookie cutters) or the button size.

In directions, usually circles are measured in circumference.

Sure thing!
Here is a link to the book that I started with. It gave me the idea for the polymer eyes.
