I am new to board as well as crochet but according to www.lionbrand.com the speed hook is a huge plastic ultra smooth sixe is listed as s-35. It looks like a huge kids hook.I have not tried it but will do so soon since it looks like a easy way to make extremely quick items for certain applications. Like my daughters Preschool friends. They LOVE her scarf and all want one and this way would be super fast.

They might be talking about the really huge hooks that use bulky yarn or fabric strips.
