Dying yarns

Categorized As:

Hi everyone!!!

I was wondering if any of you have ever tried dying your own yarns? Are there any special tricks to this? I remember reading that someone has dyed her own yarns using leaves & things. I would love to hear her story. Perhaps a tutorial!!

Thanks for reading!!

Sarahcrit would be the person to ask on this site, I think. She has some gorgeous yarn colors she's dyed herself.

My ears are burning! I hear ya!! I will try to write up some kind of tutorial when I have time. I only have experience doing natural dyeing. For starters, to get you going, you will need a large stainless steel or enamel pot(not aluminum) that you will only use for your dyeing. I found mine in the thrift store. You will also need alum and cream of tarter - found in the spice section of the grocery store. Get in touch with the mad scientist inside yourself, and you will be ready to go!!
