Do you think this sweater idea would work?
Hey all. I am rather new to crochet and have not done any garments for myself other than scarves, hats, etc. I am wondering if any of you with more experience might have an opinion on whether this idea would work.
I regularly check out Knitty.com, and there is a sweater there called Tubey that I LOVE, although my knitting skills are pretty limited and it takes too much time for me to complete anything knitting. On Craftster there is a thread http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=86110.0 regarding making one in crochet, which I love the idea of.
I have 10+ skeins of Lion Brand Incredible ribbon yarn with the likelyhood of getting more if necessary (thank you Dollar Tree!) Do you think the Incredible would work? Would it be too 'holey' or have any other problems that I might not be able to forsee?
Thanks!

I have a couple of opinions, and keep in mind, that's all they are, my opinions.
I think that you could not get a nice snug fit with the ribbon, I also think the ribbon will be bulky and holey.
I also think it would be quite difficult to get close to the gauge they call for in the pattern
BUT, I don't know, the awesome thing about crochet is that you can try anything and it is easy to rip a bit out and reshape it or whatever. If you do decide to do it, please post pictures, I'd love to see it.

Ooooooohhh that's a gorgeously easy-looking sweater that I think I might have to try my hand at as well!!
I'd love to see how yours turns out with (or without) the ribbon yarn!
Wow, great sweater. I'd love to hear how the pattern works for you in crochet.
Thanks for responding. I wasn't thinking of following the Tubey directions for knitting exactly - more like a general pattern. On the Craftster thread, they discussed the fact that Tubey was basically two tubes, one for the body, and one for the arms. I was thinking of basically making a tube top the correct size for my torso, and then making a long "scarf" the correct length and width to seam partially up to make the sleeves. Then attach the sleeves tube to the torso tube like in the Tubey pattern.
I guess my biggest concern is using the ribbon yarn. Do you think that it would be too holey using a hdc? Or do you think I should play up the holes and do a very open stitch, even maybe a dropped stitch as described in http://crochetme.com/Feb_Mar_2005/patt_dropstitch_scarf.html and put a tank under. Also, what about stretching? The ribbon seems pretty stable, but you never know.
So many decisions before I start, so little time to play with options. Thanks for the opinions!
I say make a swatch or two with different options and tug a bit on them, see what happens.
I made a hoodie last year in a hdc seed stitch. It's really warm and comfy, but I never thought about the weight. The yarn is heavy enough and the seed stitch loose enough that over the course of a day it stretches way way down. So make a couple swatches and abuse them a little and see what happens.
Sounds like a fun project. I can't wait to see the photos!

Yea I'd have to go with the previous poster and say swatch it and then go abuse it to see what happens. ^_^
When I get the energy I'm going to see if I can start the sweater. I checked out the craftster thread and it seems easy enough!
