Desperately Seeking Crochet-friendly store or events in Tucson, AZ

Categorized As:

I've tried 2 of the stores here, Purls and Kiwi Knitting. Neither are very crochet friendly. Kiwi Knitting didnt even have crochet hooks that I could find and it seemed like only a couple books. Purls has no crochet classes beyond crochet-for-knitters and their yarn is mostly acrylic. I'm just tired of being treated like a red-headed step-child.

I do like Kiwi Knitting. They have a shelf or two of crochet books (rather small shelves), and hardly any hooks. But I love to pet the yarn. They do carry the Interweave Crochet magazines and I did find a light up hook there. And I did notice that they have a "crochet-friendly" sign in the window. When I bought yarn for a crochet project, they didn't look at me funny, but tried to help as they knew how. (i.e. how much yarn to buy, etc.) Purls seemed to have more crochet books, but were relatively less friendly about helping me find yarn I needed. When I was in there a few years ago, it was *all* wool yarn. (hard for those of us with wool allergies)

I do know the JoAnn's and Michael's at Kolb and Broadway have lots more crochet supplies than the locally owned stores.

However, if you're up for a road trip, The Fiber Factory in Mesa has *lots* of crochet hooks and many crochet books!!! (one good thing about moving up here)
