cthulhu gap joining help needed

Categorized As:

Hi! I just got Christen Haden's book "Creepy Cute Crochet", its been fairly challenging but is also helping me learn alot. There is one instruction though that I don't understand. I am making the cthulhu head and first you make a round head with three gaps then after you fasten off, you go back and it says
"for each gap formed by the [ch 2, skip 1] above: row 1: join in gap, ch 1, sc 5, sl st to close round {5}. ch 1, sc 5, sl st to close round." whats throwing me off here is the "join in gap" I have never heard of this before and there is no explanation. Does anyone with more experience understand how i do that?

here is a picture if it helps

My guess, Nintendork, is that you just join your new piece of yarn in the gap you made earlier and then make your ch 1, sc5, etc... around the gap. I hope this is helpful.

mad for crochet!

what does "join" mean?

Your original question - not a clue. Sarahcrit seems close.

What is "join"? In this context, I think it means to fasten a piece of yarn to the gap, after you've broken the yarn earlier. Tie the yarn to the edge of the gap; draw a loop of the yarn thru the edge; or make a loop around the hook and then draw a loop both thru the edge of the gap and thru the loop on the hook.
